Driftwood Birdhouses

Rustic Driftwood Bird Houses

These lovely bird houses are made from driftwood, and come in a range of interesting designs. There is something very homely and beautiful about driftwood, I love it's faded colors, soft feel, and interesting shapes that have been carved by the pebbles and worn by the sea.

The birdhouse in the picture to the left is probably my absolute favorite, I love the way it has been constructed, with it's straw roof, and driftwood walls. The little pieces of driftwood outside the house look really cute too. It could almost be a fairy house.

A driftwood birdhouse is of course ideal for a beach residence, but would look just as 'at home' in the country, or walled garden, too.

Unusual Diamond Shape Birdhouse

This beautiful driftwood birdhouse uses pieces of drift wood arranged in a diamond shape, and built up to make a nesting space.

I really like this design, and can see a lot of ways that it could be further beautified, little white shells could be added amongst the driftwood, bits of sea glass could be lodged amongst it too.

Of course it is also amazing just as it is, contemporary yet natural, and very interesting to look at.

Driftwood Love Shack For Birds

What I like about this one is that it has a clear side, so that you can see the birds nesting inside, very exciting to watch esp for kids! This driftwood birdhouse can be window mounted, so that it is easily viewed.

How To Make A Driftwood Birdhouse

If you are able to get hold of driftwood, or have a ready supply, a driftwood birdhouse should be quite east to make. Use small pin nails to attach the driftwood pieces to each other, and build up the design piece-by-piece. Remember to make sure that the birds inside are going to be protected from wind and rain. In other words be careful about leaving large gaps, especially in the roof.

You are going to need to drill a hole for the birds to enter and exit, the size of this hole will determine which birds will nest there. Before you drill the hole check out this guide to birdhouse hole sizes and which birds use each size hole.
